Patagonia's Wetsuit Forge Continues Sustainable Efforts
Amy Duong — May 7, 2024References: designtaxi & youtu.be
Patagonia continues to build on the notion of sustainable fashion with its new Wetsuit Forge repair and design center. This showcases how the apparel and gear are consumed and given new life after it reaches its end. The prototype is not meant to be durable in the waves but instead, highlights its ability to be made back to life again.
It breaks down old Patagonia wetsuits down to their molecular components. These are melted down and remoulade into new wetsuits that have low carbon footprints. It reduces waste drastically and offers an alternative approach to circular design instead of longevity. It uses Yulex natural rubber, which is a bio-based material using sustainably harvested guayule trees.
