Monarch Butterfly Conservation Efforts

TN Nursery Launched a New Initiative to Create Waystations

TN Nursery has launched an initiative to aid in the conservation of monarch butterflies by promoting the creation of monarch waystations. In collaboration with the Tennessee Department of Transportation, the initiative includes "the distribution of milkweed seeds to help restore crucial habitats for monarchs; these waystations will provide essential resources such as food, shelter, and breeding grounds for the butterflies, contributing to their conservation."

To establish a monarch waystation, TN Nursery recommends incorporating specific pollinator-friendly plants. Ideal species include "Butterfly Weed (Asclepias tuberosa), Milkweed (Asclepias spp.), Blanket Flower (Gaillardia spp.), Purple Coneflower (Echinacea purpurea), Joe Pye Weed (Eutrochium spp.), Black-Eyed Susan (Rudbeckia hirta), Blazing Star (Liatris spp.), and Asters (Symphyotrichum spp.)."

This initiative highlights the significance of community participation in ecological preservation and fosters biodiversity by supporting monarch butterflies and other vital pollinators in local ecosystems.
