Co-op is Targeting Solar Panel Installation on Up to 700 Sites
Michael Hemsworth — October 2, 2024Co-op has announced a new solar panel installation target in the UK as part of its Net Zero commitment to help transition the brand into a sustainability leader. The brand has sights set on installing solar panels across 700 sites related to its food, funeral care and logistics portfolio, which would deliver around 30,000 kWh of solar energy from around 76,000 solar panels. The initiative could help to alleviate pressure on the electricity grid in the UK and will be put into action over the course of the next 12 months with the brand's development partner Zestec Renewable Energy.
Group Property & Sustainability Director Heather Thomas spoke on the solar panel installation target saying, "Our investment in onsite power generation across our estate is part of Co-op’s commitment to playing its role in the transition to Net Zero. This project, alongside increasing our investment in corporate power purchase agreements, is crucial to guaranteeing that the energy we use in our operations is renewable and traceable.”
