Hybrid Water Treatment Solutions
NIT Rourkela Debuts a Sustainable Wastewater Treatment System
Kanesa D — January 31, 2025Researchers at the National Institute of Technology Rourkela have introduced a hybrid wastewater treatment system designed to tackle the growing challenge of industrial wastewater contamination. This cutting-edge, eco-friendly solution merges advanced nanocomposite materials with microbubble technology, effectively removing dyes like Bismarck Brown R, which are notoriously resistant to traditional treatment techniques.
“Our hybrid system successfully achieved 95.4% decolorisation of Bismarck Brown R and 94% removal of chemical oxygen demand (COD) in just 90 minutes," said Prof. Sujit Sen from the Department of Chemical Engineering.
By significantly improving dye removal efficiency, this innovative system offers a sustainable and cost-effective approach to managing industrial wastewater, presenting a promising solution for industries seeking to reduce environmental impact while maintaining regulatory compliance.
Notably, this will benefit the textile and chemical industries, which require reliable and robust wastewater management tools to help support the sustainability and efficiency of product design.
