The beauty industry has long been criticized for its high levels of waste, with notoriously difficult-to-recycle products due to the individual components they are made up of—but a new refillable beauty brand is taking on the challenge of reducing waste in the industry. Maya was developed by Morrama in partnership with Shanghai-based packaging manufacturer PPK, and it offers a completely plastic-free beauty system. Products can be replenished as needed with refills that are made from a paper-like material made of bamboo and bagasse pulp, which can be recycled at the end of its usable life.

Maya makes everything from lipsticks and makeup palettes to pumps and cream pots, which offer not only sustainability but also a great level of customization. Knowing that consumers rarely ever finish a lipstick tube before it expires, the brand created a patented design that can be removed and stored in a board-based packaging system.
