Carbon Removal Milestones

Paebbl Has Successfully Mineralized Its First Ton of Carbon Dioxide
Jana Pijak — October 30, 2024Paebbl, a Stockholm-based startup focused on carbon-negative construction materials, has reached a remarkable milestone by successfully mineralizing its first ton of carbon dioxide (CO2) at its pilot facility. This achievement, though representing only a small fraction of its long term goal, marks a crucial step towards a more sustainable future.
The company’s innovative process converts CO2 into carbonate rock powder, a low-energy solid that can replace traditional construction materials that emit greenhouse gases. By mimicking a natural process where rainwater reacts with rocks to form carbonates, Paebbl accelerates this transformation by a million times. For every ton of CO2 captured, approximately three tons of rock powder are produced.
Paebbl aims to remove 1 billion tons of CO2 annually by 2050, collaborating with the construction industry to decarbonize the built environment. With plans to scale up production at its continuous demo plant, the startup is actively seeking to expand its team to tackle the immense challenge of climate change.
