Massive Attack Hosts the Most Sustainable Festival in the UK

Massive Attack recently brought together 35,000 fans for an eco-conscious music festival at Clifton Downs in their hometown of Bristol. The event featured performances by American rapper Killer Mike, Irish folk group Lankum, English actor and musician Samantha Morton, 100% vegan food options, and an electric-powered stage. It intentionally excluded a car park to encourage sustainable transportation.

The event was aptly named Act 1.5, referencing the 2015 Paris Agreement, where world leaders pledged to limit global temperature increases to below 1.5°C.

Massive Attack commissioned the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research three years prior to develop a blueprint for environmentally conscious live music events. Thanks in part to the involvement of the non-profit organization A Greener Future (AGF), Act 1.5 demonstrated that large-scale events can adopt meaningful sustainability measures without compromising the experience for attendees.
