Waste-Avoiding Houses

The ICEhouse is Constructed Largely From Reusable Materials
Rahul Kalvapalle — January 29, 2016The ICEhouse is an innovative dwelling, designed by William McDonough + Partners Architects, that is designed to be incredibly easy and fast to assemble. What's unique about this structure is that the walls and roof can be assembled in just a few days, and the entire structure in nine days. While regular houses tend to generate a lot of waste when they approach the end of their shelf life, the ICEhouse's design and construction mitigates waste and ensures that materials can be reused.
The building is made of just a few primary materials -- aluminum for the frame, polycarbonate for the walls and roofing, aerogel for insulation and Nylon 6 for other construction elements.
Ultimately, the ICEhouse is a sustainable and impressive architectural accomplishment and one that could help reduce the waste that occurs when houses are demolished or re-fitted.
