Carbon-Positive Cork Packaging

Lush Cosmetics' Cork Pot Introduces the Future of Eco Packaging

In an attempt to reduce plastic packaging waste, Lush Cosmetics first introduced its biodegradable Cork Pot in 2017 and now the product is receiving recognition as the first carbon-positive product of its kind. The brand was recently awarded its first Carbon Neutral certification, as each 35-gram Cork Pot absorbs more than 33 times its weight in carbon dioxide, which plays a great part in sequestering CO2.

According to Simon Brewer and Ben Davis from Lush’s Environmental Impact Team, "When Lush started working with cork, we knew the material was very capable of sequestering greenhouse gases from the atmosphere. But we didn’t realize just how much until we came to study it more closely and found that a Cork Pot was actually removing more CO2 than it was emitting over its lifecycle."
