Community-Targeted Air Initiatives
CleanAIRE NC Offers an Educational Science Program
Debra John — October 29, 2024The 'CleanAIRE NC Community Science Program' engages North Carolinians in the pursuit of cleaner air through an educational, community-driven initiative. Volunteer AirKeepers participate by "collecting and analyzing local air quality data using specialized monitoring devices, contributing to a deeper understanding of pollutant exposure across the state." This program empowers communities with accurate, real-time data that can be used to advocate for healthier air and environmental policies, ultimately supporting better public health outcomes.
Air sensors, which can be installed indoors or outdoors based on device type, track "various pollutants and upload data to an online platform for visualization and storage; monthly reports gained from this data by CleanAIRE NC offer valuable insights that can be shared with environmental organizations and local authorities."
To ensure effective data collection, CleanAIRE NC provides training on air quality science and monitoring, fostering informed community action for improved air quality.
