Oxyle Developed Innovative Technology to Address Water Contamination
Debra John — January 31, 2025Water contamination, particularly from PFAS—persistent synthetic chemicals found in consumer products and industrial applications—poses a significant environmental and public health challenge. Traditional treatment methods, like filtration and adsorption, do not eliminate PFAS but instead transfer them to other waste streams, requiring costly incineration or landfilling. This process risks reintroducing the chemicals into the environment, creating a cycle of contamination. While some technologies can destroy PFAS, their high energy demands make them too expensive for widespread use.
Swiss startup Oxyle has developed a breakthrough solution to "permanently remove PFAS from wastewater—backed by a $16 million funding round, the company is expanding its innovative system, which destroys PFAS instead of relocating them."
Oxyle’s technology uses a three-step process that includes "foam fractionation, catalytic destruction, and real-time monitoring powered by machine learning; this modular system eliminates over 99% of PFAS while using far less energy than conventional methods, making it a cost-effective and sustainable option for industries."
