The 'Smart Driving Challenge' is back for 2025, with the FIA launching the initiative on April 1 to promote safer and more sustainable driving habits. In partnership with Swedish tech company Greater Than, the challenge uses an AI-powered app to analyze each driver’s behavior in real time -- evaluating crash risk and climate impact with every journey. This personalized feedback loop empowers users to reduce emissions and improve safety by adjusting driving patterns.

Participants are encouraged to make smarter driving choices, such as planning routes in advance, adjusting speeds to match weather conditions, and minimizing distractions. The app collects GPS data and compares it to a vast real-world driving and crash statistics database to generate each driver’s score. The challenge spans seven months and culminates in a live playoff where the top drivers compete for the championship title.
