"Otenya," the Spanish word for "protein" is the name of a new yarn collection from Ferney Spinning Mills and sister company Floreal Knitwear that uses Spiber's Brewed Protein fibers. These lab-grown, plant-based circular protein materials are made with a proprietary microbial fermentation process, creating a more sustainable alternative to popular choices like cashmere. These fibers address the need for animal-free, petrochemical-free fibers and a more ethical, sustainable fashion future.

This collection blends RWS (Responsible Wool Standard) certified ultrafine merino wool and Brewed Protein fibers, and Spiber is working with the global spinning mill and its sister knitwear company to create a 100% Brewed Protein yarn.

This knitwear launch is a noteworthy one since Ferney Spinning Mills is now the first international spinning mill to introduce yarn collections incorporating Brewed Protein fibers.
