Landfill-Transformed Wetland Parks

Field Operations Transforms the Freshkills Park in NYC

Local landscape studio Field Operations launches a look at a swath of land located in Staten Island's Freshkills Park, which was previously the world's largest landfill location. It is now a wetland park and rests along the west side of Staten Island in New York City. It connects the previous Schmul Playground with the neighborhood surrounding the park.

Founding partner of the studio James Corner states, "This is an exciting moment in the continually evolving life of Freshkills, marking significant new public access, ecological renewal, and social amenity. Once people get into the heart of the site, they will be astounded by the extraordinary scale and character of the larger park, with its palpable sense of nature, extensive vistas, and opportunities to explore."
