Crowdsourced Ecological Apps
This Environmental Information Leverages the Power Of the Crowd
Rahul Kalvapalle — April 28, 2016EcoSourcer is a wonderfully innovative and useful new mobile app, developed by the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture as part of a collaboration with Isle of Man-based company Fuzzelogic Solutions, that is designed to make it easier than ever to harness crowdsourced environmental information in order to gain real-time and accurate information about wildlife and the environment in general.
What's great about this app is that it leverages the power of the crowd to help government departments and environmental groups get the latest and greatest data. For example, anglers are normally required to fill in a 'catch return' so that authorities can keep track of fish populations in the local area.
Now however, thanks to EcoSourcer, anglers can update their catch information in the app itself so that it can be looked at in conjunction with other environmental information to better gauge the state of the local ecosystem, something that's important for both educational and safety reasons.
