Dublin-based brand Bewley’s has achieved a groundbreaking milestone in sustainable coffee production, receiving praise from world-renowned conservationist Dr. Jane Goodall. In collaboration with the Mesoamerican Development Institute (MDI), Bewley’s has pioneered the Integrated Open Canopy (IOC) farming system in Honduras, which conserves 50% of coffee farm land as restored forest habitat, countering coffee’s historic role in deforestation. In addition, Bewley’s supports the Café Solar project, utilizing solar and biofuel energy to replace traditional, high-emission coffee drying methods.

This model, which Goodall called "groundbreaking," not only restores biodiversity but also uplifts farmers economically, aligning with Bewley’s broader environmental goals. With initiatives like Café Femenino, the company also promotes gender equity, enhancing women’s income in male-dominated coffee farming communities.

As Ireland’s first large-scale B Corp-certified coffee company, Bewley’s is setting a global standard, advancing coffee’s response to the climate crisis and reinforcing its commitment to ethical, sustainable practices.
