Room2 Opened the World's First Whole-Life Net-Zero Hotel
Laura McQuarrie — January 3, 2022Room2 opened the doors to what it is calling the world's first net-zero hotel across its entire lifespan from construction to demolition. The hotel from the hospitality brand was designed by architecture studio Project Orange, and it can be found in the west London area of Chiswick. With 86 rooms that are powered by solar panels and ground source heat pumps, the hotel follows an industry-first decarbonization strategy.
With a focus on reducing the hotel's total operational and embodied emissions, Room2 is estimated to have brought the carbon footprint down to 10,800 tonnes over the building's 60-year lifespan. These emissions from the hotel were then offset by a verified bamboo afforestation program in Nicaragua.
