Bee-Focused Heat-Based Technology
Lifehive Works to Protect Honeybees from Environmental Dangers
Kalin Ned — December 30, 2024Lifehive offers an innovative solution to the longstanding problem of Varroa mite infestations in bee colonies, which can devastate hives and affect honey production. The system uses heat to target and eliminate the mites by applying controlled, precise temperatures to the brood frames, which contain the young bees. By heating these frames to 42°C for three-hour periods, Lifehive disrupts the reproductive cycle of the mites without harming the bees themselves.
This method provides a significant improvement over traditional mite control measures, such as chemical treatments, which can have negative environmental impacts and may result in the development of resistant mite strains. Livehive's heat treatment is powered by solar energy, as well.
Equipped with AI-powered algorithms, Lifehive ensures that only frames with capped brood, where the mites are most active, are treated.
