Home-Compostable Chicken Buckets
KFC Canada is Now Piloting Home-Compostable Packaging
Laura McQuarrie — June 5, 2021For World Environment Day, KFC Canada is distinguishing itself as the first QSR in Canada to introduce home-compostable packaging. The pilot for the first home-compostable bucket will be kicking off this year and it will ultimately help KFC Canada work toward its goal of having 100% home-compostable consumer packaging by 2025.
With this sustainable packaging change, KFC Canada will help to divert almost 200 million pieces of packaging from Canadian landfills each year. From 2019 to 2020, KFC began removing plastic bags and straws from restaurants and replacing them with fibre-based alternatives, as well as introducing bamboo buckets and fibre-based cutlery.
KFC Canada is working with Toronto-based artist Briony Douglas on an installation made entirely from home compostable materials to celebrate this sustainable packaging news.
