Fiber-Reduced Eco Packaging

DS Smith Debuts the 'Light Wrap' to Lower Packaging CO2 Emissions

DS Smith, a London-based packaging company, has recently unveiled an innovative packaging solution known as the Light Wrap. This novel packaging solution has been designed as a classic brick wraparound, ensuring that the packaging can support heavier weights when stacked on top of each other in transportation.

Notably, the Light Wrap distinguishes itself by utilizing a reduced amount of fiber in its manufacturing process, resulting in a remarkable 19% reduction in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions when compared to conventional packaging alternatives. This significant reduction in CO2 emissions showcases the potential of the Light Wrap as a sustainable packaging option, aligning with the company's commitment to minimizing its carbon footprint.

“We can reduce the fiber content and, in consequence, the CO2 emissions due to the clever structural design that hides the deformation of the wraparounds in semi-self-supported primary products,” Iago Candal, design and innovation manager of Southern Europe packaging at DS Smith, commented in an interview.
