Supply Change is Monitoring Deforestation in Business Supply Chains
Alyson Wyers — April 27, 2015This project is taking on monitoring deforestation and ensuring companies keep their commitments to lessen the eco impacts of their supply chains. From non-profit organization Forest Trends, the Supply Change platform lets anybody track a business's progress when it comes to reducing deforestation. This is important work given how many products from some of the world's largest firms are made from illegally deforested land.
The Supply Change tool is monitoring deforestation by giving brands and customers the change to stay informed on the behaviors of businesses promising to introduce more sustainable practices. It is described as a "transformational resource" that combines data of about 300 businesses and their general commitments, as well as information relating to palm, soy, cattle, timber and pulp.
Transparency is an important part of corporate social responsibility, especially concerning monitoring deforestation, the environment and ethical consumerism.
