Air-Purifying Skyscraper Concepts
This High-Rise Would Sequester 1,000 Tons of Carbon a Year
Rahul Kalvapalle — November 17, 2021World-renowned architecture and urban planning company Skidmore, Owings & Merill (SOM) has released a gorgeous new skyscraper concept that envisions a high-rise building that is capable of actively trapping carbon and proactively purifying the air.
This skyscraper concept would be crafted from eco-friendly materials such as timber and hempcrete to actively reduce the carbon emissions associated with its own construction. It would also be embedded with carbon capture mechanisms that would enable it to isolate 1,000 tons of carbon each year.
Dubbed 'Urban Sequoia,' this particular skyscraper concept was envisioned in order to provide a dose of futuristic inspiration amid the United Nations COP26 Climate Change Conference, with its ambitious yet attractive design hinting at the future of eco-friendly urban architecture.
