A new range of organic pigments for biodegradable plastics and compostable polymers have been unveiled by Switzerland-based Clariant as a way to help enhance the appealing nature of the packaging.

The pigment range includes 25 organic shades in total and could help to bolster the appeal of organic and recyclable packaging varieties for a wide array of companies. The earthy range of tones could help to make the packaging stand out, while also conveying an eco-friendly ethos to the consumer.

Global Marketing Manager, Plastics at Clariant Barbara Philipp spoke on the new biodegradable plastic pigments saying, "Compostable and colourful can now go hand-in-hand for packaging, meaning manufacturers and consumers won’t have to lower their design expectations for sustainable solutions. By working closely with masterbatch producers like Af-color to help them get the most out of our EN 13432 compatible pigments, we can contribute to increasing the appeal of biodegradable and industrial compostable solutions for food and beverage packaging and consumer goods, as innovation continues to improve their properties and new functionalities are introduced.”
